What this site is

Islam Beyond Headlines is an introduction to Islam for curious newcomers, for Christians who want to understand their Muslim neighbours, and for anyone whose impression of Islam comes mostly from the news. It explains what Muslims believe and practise, answers common questions, and compares Islam and Christianity respectfully.

Our perspective

This site is written from an openly Muslim perspective. Its author believes that the Qur’an is the word of God and that mercy, forgiveness, kindness, care for others and the sacredness of life lie at the heart of Islam. We do not hide that conviction, and we do not ask you to share it.

Having a point of view is not a licence to overstate. On every page we try to keep three things distinct:

• Faith claims, such as the belief that the Qur’an is revealed, which we present as convictions.
• Interpretations, where Muslims, or Christians, read the same texts in different ways.
• Historical evidence, which we report as carefully as we can, including where it is uncertain.

What you will find here

• A short answer at the top of every topic, followed by more detail.
• Quotations from primary texts, clearly marked, with links to read them in context.
• Difficult passages and disagreements included, not left out.
• No popups, sign-ups, autoplaying media or donation requests.

What this site is not

It is not a source of religious rulings, and it does not replace a qualified scholar or a local imam for personal religious guidance. It is not a debating platform, and it is not written to criticize Christians or anyone else. Its content has not been formally reviewed or endorsed by any scholar or organization.

Questions and corrections

Questions are welcome, and so are corrections. This first version does not yet include a contact form or address. Our approach to accuracy and corrections is described on Sources & Editorial Approach.
